DOTA 2 – A Complete GamePlay

DOTA 2 is a MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) game created and published by Valve Corporation. It is the stand-alone sequel to Defense of the Ancients. DOTA 2 has been in beta since 2011 and will be officially released on July 18th, 2013. The game was first shown at Gamescom 2010 for Microsoft Windows, OS X, and Linux platforms. During its development phase, Dota2 was a free-to-play title with players only paying for cosmetic items instead of gameplay-altering content like champions or maps. The decision to charge money for the full release has been met with many complaints from fans who are used to getting all their games for free thanks to microtransactions within gaming communities like League of Legends or Dota1. Valve has responded to the criticism by saying that they are not “just going to cut a check” and give away what took so many people years to develop.

The game is centered around two teams of five players, each occupying a stronghold on opposite corners of a symmetrical map. Each player controls a single character from one of over 100 different heroes, each with unique abilities and style of play. Players can purchase items and equipment for their heroes to make them more powerful. The objective of the game is to propagate one’s armies across the map so that they can destroy the enemy’s stronghold, resulting in victory. Many elements and gameplay mechanics from Defense of the Ancients have been preserved in Dota 2, such as denying creeps, Last Hitting, lane control, and Roshan.

Data 2 has been praised by many as a much improved and more balanced game than its predecessor, Dota1. The increased production values and attention to detail have also been well-received, with some reviewers calling it one of the best-looking games of 2013. Hardcore MOBA players have taken to the game quickly, but Valve has made attempts to make the game more newcomer-friendly by including an in-game tutorial system and adding bots that can fill in for absent players. Despite these measures, the learning curve is still relatively steep and the game is notorious for its high skill cap. Many professional gamers have made the transition to Dota 2 from other MOBAs, including League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth.
